Narva town is located on the east border of Estonia with Russia and has a long history as trading, industrial and tourist town. In the European history Narva is known as traditional world trade centre, and from the middle of XIX century and as the center of the textile industry.

Krenholm (in Swedish Krähneholm -crow island) belonged to the Suthoff family. In 1856, German industrialist Ludwig Knoop bought the island and established there a cotton factory. The cornerstone of the Krenholm Factory was laid on April 30. 1857.

The first 8000 spinning spindles have twirled on October 10th, 1857. In August 1859 there were produced the first meters of fabric from new weaving mill. The new building of a spinning mill has opened on September 18th, 1861. In 1862 civil work at spinning and weavers factories have been finished all, all machines were established and started in work. Krenholm Manufacture was considered as the largest textile well equipped enterprise not only in Russia, but also in all Europe. The first power supply of the spinning machines came from the Narva Waterfall. The factory produced cotton thread and fabric and wadding, which were supplied to the whole Russia.

The other Krenholm factories were built with some intervals in time, namely:
· 1870 – New spinning mill
· 1876 – the 4th floor of weaving mill was overbuilt
· 1884 – Joala spinning mill
· 1899 – Georgieskaya spinning and weaving mill
· 1900 – central electric station.

During the Great World War Krenholm manufacture has been strongly destroyed. There were not more Georgievskaya and New spinning factories. All equipment has been destroyed. The Old spinning mill and Joala mill have been also strongly damaged. And only owing to efforts of all people Krenholm manufacture has been restored. On August 29th, 1945 the first 16 weaving looms have begun work.

Krenholm Finishing was launched in the end of 1967. Starting from this time Krenholm began to sell simultaneously with grey cloth also the ready-made fabrics – bleached, dyed, printed increasing volume year by year. Just finishing was for Krenholm the step to a new quality level.
